Durante la selecci\u00f3n de un casco, lo primero a ver es su certificaci\u00f3n o sello de certificado. El m\u00e1s com\u00fan y confiable es el DOT, siglas de Departamento de Transporte, tanto de Estados Unidos de Am\u00e9rica como de Reino Unido.<\/h4>\n

Estas instituciones establecen los requisitos que debe cumplir un casco para ser vendido en muchos pa\u00edses, y al mismo tiempo, provee seguridad a quien lo usa.<\/h4>\n

A pesar que son muchas las pruebas, las m\u00e1s comunes son:<\/h4>\n

1. De impacto: se mide c\u00f3mo se comporta el casco al golpearlo, la absorci\u00f3n de la energ\u00eda para proteger la cabeza de quien lo usa, y especialmente, la aceleraci\u00f3n de la cabeza del maniqu\u00ed us\u00e1ndolo durante la prueba.<\/h4>\n

2. De penetraci\u00f3n: se eval\u00faa si el casco es capaz de evitar que entren objetos punzocortantes al \u00e1rea donde va la cabeza del motorista.<\/h4>\n

3. De visi\u00f3n perif\u00e9rica: el campo de la vista de quien usa el casco, tanto en el plano horizontal como en el vertical. La idea es que obstruya la vista lo menos posible.<\/h4>\n

4. De aterrizaje: se eval\u00faa el nivel de protecci\u00f3n ante el choque con un carro, un objeto o el piso, seg\u00fan la velocidad a la cual va el casco y quien lo usa en una moto.<\/h4>\n

5. De tiempo de uso: cuanta lluvia, polvo y viento aguanta la carcasa del casco.<\/h4>\n

Al cumplir estos y otros ex\u00e1menes, el modelo del casco recibe la autorizaci\u00f3n de etiquetarlo como DOT, calcoman\u00eda que debe estar siempre adherida al casco para efectos de seguros, temas legales y otros.<\/h4>\n

Los fabricantes de cascos con certificado DOT tambi\u00e9n permiten que esa entidad visite e inspeccione sus instalaciones, procesos de producci\u00f3n y buena utilizaci\u00f3n de la certificaci\u00f3n.<\/h4>\n

Recuerde que la vida \u00fatil del casco termina cuando es sometido a un golpe. Es decir, todo casco que participa en un incidente o accidente, autom\u00e1ticamente pierde su capacidad de protecci\u00f3n y debe ser reemplazado por un nuevo.<\/h4>\n
